Minor damage to the 10 inch roof cap as shown in the pic. Cheap flimsy damper with a small riveted hinge at the back. There is a nice rubber seal, but this like all other roof caps looks like it will blow in the wind and be noisy. I intentionally chose a roof cap without a spring as this causes back pressure on the hood vent. The bird/bug screen fell out multiple times, upon arrival and when performing install. It is held in place by tension reasonable well if undisturbed, but may require being checked periodically. I hope that all joints are seam welded, as shown in one pic there is an easy opportunity for water to enter. I would like a response from roofing direct on this bad design feature, as I believe this flap should have been installed on the inside, not outside as shown. I will hose test and if I see a leak I will need to apply roof cement, and make this vent ugly.

  1. Product is pretty good except for the metal screen which fell out in shipment. This is a consistent problem mentioned in prior reviews which still hasn’t been resolved. The official response has been something like “ we leave it loose so you can clean it out in the future “. This of course is a BS response. I added 2 self tapping metal screws to secure the screen to the product so that the screen doesn’t come loose . The last thing I want is to have the screen loose up on my roof. Please fix your product!!!

    • Hi Robert, thank you for your concerns regarding the vent screen. These are secured from the manufacturer using a pressure fit design, however, they can become loose due to the intense rattling created in transit. Please be assured that these are not normal conditions that the vent would experience through its intended use and after installing you should not have any additional problems.

  2. Perfiect .. well packed and all looks great

    • Thank you for letting us know that the product was packaged well and that it looks great.

Can you describe the damper? Is it just sheet metal that depends on gravity or is there a spring? Also, is it riveted or welded assembly? Thomas asked on April 1, 2022

The RDP Rooftop Exhaust Vent Cap features a riveted damper that relies on gravity to close.
